Discussion of bridge design after testing
1. What is your score efficiency? If the efficiency is high/low what went right/wrong?
Our score efficiency was 44. It was rather low compared to a minority of other groups who scored around 100. We should have made the base stronger by placing the ice cream sticks with it's narrow side facing the ground instead of the wider side facing the ground as ice cream sticks snap easily when pressed on both ends on the wider side, but when pressure is applied onto both of the narrower sides, it does not break as easily, thus, if we had arranged the ice cream sticks differently, the base would have been stronger.
2. Which part of the bridge started to give way first? Explain using Physics concepts
The bridge snapped into half in the centre. The bridge was built to be as symmetrical as possible, this thus leads to our conclusion that it is due to the symmetry that the bridge snapped into half in the middle.
3. Which part of the bridge provided the most strength in the testing process? Explain using Physics concepts.
The bridge snapped in the centre, thus we can conclude that the bridge had approximately the same amount of strength at every point.
